Announcing a 2x acceleration in Astroport’s token emission schedule

Astroport’s builders believe in one thing above all others: radical decentralization. To achieve that goal, we must open-source all the code and intellectual property on the ship.

Already, Astroport has open-sourced audited code for Liquidity Bootstrapping Pools (LBPs) and the Astroport brand name and graphic design work that’s gone into the project. We will soon open-source the core smart contracts and the front-end UI.*

At Astroport, anything that the community can own will be owned by the community.

Perhaps, most importantly, the community must own the decision-making processes at Astroport. That’s why we’re excited to announce an acceleration in the Astroport token emission schedule.

Astroport will more than double the first-year’s ASTRO emissions for the ASTRO Generators. In addition, these generators will distribute ASTRO rewards and, where possible, dual rewards in the form of governance tokens from other projects like Anchor or Pylon.

This means that in Year 1, the ASTRO emission rate will rise from 49 million ASTRO tokens to 100 million ASTRO tokens. That’s 10% of the total supply of 1 billion tokens and 20.408% of the 490 million total tokens allocated to LPs.

Each year after Year 1, emissions will decrease by 20.408% a year. That means Astroport will distribute 79.59 million ASTRO tokens to LPs in Year 2, 63.35 million in Year 3, etc. Altogether, emissions will be available through the terrestrial year 2090 (69 years from now), as shown in the table at the bottom of this article.

Learn which pools will receive these emissions in our recent article: Announcing Astroport’s post-launch ASTRO emissions schedule. Keep in mind that these LP emissions are separate from and in addition to the lockdrop, airdrop, and ASTRO-UST Liquidity Bootstrapping Pool rewards, which are discussed here. All other emissions remain unchanged.

The net effect of this modification is a rapid distribution of tokens in Year 1. This will smooth out the emissions schedule for subsequent years and get more ASTRO where it belongs — into the hands of the community — much faster.

*Limited aesthetic aspects of the UI — for example, in-licensed custom fonts — may be substituted with open-source alternatives in the open-sourced repository.
